Am I being cheap? (1 valuable lesson I learned 6 years back)

When I started my business the only service I used to provide was…

 

Website Design for Coaches.

 

This was around 6 years back.

 

During that time…

 

I learned a VALUABLE lesson that I’m gonna share with you today.

 

I was doing these free website strategy calls.

 

Where I’d discover the client’s vision and desired vibe for the website.

 

And if I can deliver that…
I would let them know how the next steps would work.

 

If I can’t deliver something…
I would tell them we won’t be the right fit.

 

My closing percentage… 74%.
(Fun fact: Hit my first $20k month… with website design alone)

 

But as you know there are always people who will say…

 

That’s too expensive.
I can get my website done for $500 or $1000 from this cheap marketplace.

 

And they won’t sign up.

 

They would go for this “cheaper website”.

 

And then face the struggles of being cheap.
“They didn’t understand my vision”
“They didn’t deliver the website on time”
“They are charging every month. And I don’t have full control over my own website”
“My website got hacked. And there’s no support”
“They created a website that I don’t even wanna show to the world”

 

And on and on…
Never-ending issues with their website.

 

What this would lead to…

 

REDESIGN.

 

Now they would invest the money again…
to get their website done RIGHT.

 

How do I know?

 

Some of them came to me asking…
if I would redesign their website.

 

What was even more surprising…
Some of them DIDN’T learn their lesson the first time.

 

They would invest $500-$1000…
3-4 times before realizing this CHEAP thing ain’t working.

 

This didn’t just cost them MONEY.

 

It costs them a lot of time, reputation, and bad headaches.

 

Here’s the valuable lesson I learned from watching all this…

 

Overpaying for the right solution is FAR BETTER than underpaying for the wrong solution.

 

And since that time…

 

Whether it’s investing in a mentor…
Or hiring a team member…
Or investing in some tech…

 

I always ask myself…
Am I being CHEAP?

 

And if I am being cheap, I remind myself…

 

Overpaying for the right solution is FAR BETTER than underpaying for the wrong solution.

 

That’s it for today.

 

P.S. Although I never talk about it… but we still do website design for coaches.

 

Why? Because I love the creativity involved in it.
