Do you have THIS self-sabotaging belief?

Recently I heard a coach saying…

“I have never been someone who chooses the easy route”

The first thought that came to my mind…

“Okay then you get to enjoy hard times after hard times”

Maybe you want that.

Maybe you don’t.

But if you’re thinking that it’s inspirational or motivational to believe…

“I have never been someone who chooses the easy route”

It’s NOT.

Imagine John wants to go from New York to Washington DC.

But instead of taking the direct flight…

He books a flight to the UK and then to DC.

Because he’s someone who never chooses the easy route.

That wouldn’t be called “intelligent behavior”.

Now I understand the sentiment behind this belief.

You want to do hard things, become someone great, and have an interesting life.

But do you see the stupidity in having this particular belief?

As a consequence of this belief…

Many entrepreneurs build something good.

Then MESS it up big time because things got easy.

Then they wonder…
why do I keep facing the hard times?
Why do I have constant struggles?

Because you’re the one creating this cycle of self-sabotage.

What could be a better alternative with a similar inspirational sentiment?

“I am someone who does what it takes to make my vision a reality”

It could be an easy thing.
Or a hard thing.

But now the focus is not on doing hard things for the sake of doing hard things.

Focus is on the vision.

As a result…
you won’t head dive into the cycle of self-sabotage.

That’s it for now.

Reflect on your beliefs.

Try to think about the consequences of your beliefs.

And then create a belief set that serves you and your people well in the long run.

That’s it for today.
