Easiest advice to give… hardest advice to follow

Here’s the easiest advice to give…

And the hardest advice to follow…

As I see it, it’s hard because of 2 main reasons:

1.) Most of us don’t know ourselves that well

I’d personally say I’m a very self-aware person. Been on a mediation (self-awareness) journey since I was 13 years old.

But different situations, experiences, life in general… reveal more and more.

There’s always so much more to understand about ourselves.

2.) For some of us who are self-aware, we HIDE ourselves.

Or we don’t show up FULLY.

Because of…

what other people would say.

society’s way of looking at certain things.

the beliefs we got from our parents or parental figures.

And sometimes we are not fully ourselves… just to make the other person feel comfortable.

[I’d personally suggest… never do that. They gotta be comfortable in their skin and you gotta be comfortable in your skin. But it’s your choice]

3.) It’s related to the first point. WHO IS OUR TRUE SELF?

Is our potential the real thing?

Is our spirit(soul/aatma) the real thing?

Are our values and beliefs the real thing?

Are our actions the real thing?

Is ‘who you become’ based on what the situation demands the real thing?

Is how we show up the real thing? [we show up differently with a kid, with a parent, in a meeting, in our religious gathering]

Is who you’re becoming the real thing? Your future self?

Maybe all of this combined.

Some people will say only 1 thing is REAL based on their religious and other beliefs.

I personally believe…

“Who is our true self”

This is an inner journey. Not an answer you can easily get from someone else.

Other people can guide you in the right direction, give you hints, ask you questions, be an inspiration…

But they can’t give you… your answer.

So that’s my short reflection on “be yourself”.

And why I say… it’s the easiest advice to give. And the hardest advice to follow.

It’s not a topic that I believe can be covered in 1 email.

Maybe 1 lifetime isn’t enough.

But I wanted to share this with you today.

P.S. Try to be “authentically yourself – as you see yourself currently” in every situation. There’s no right or wrong answer. It’s a journey.

I’d love to hear your thoughts/reflections on this… let me know.

Hope you’re having a fun week. Take care!
